ESF Experts Bring Interactive Science to the New York State Fair
Make paper, learn how to recycle, discover how water is cleaned, experience how scientists are helping to solve environmental problems, and more at the New York State Fair with the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF), the most distinguished institution in the nation that focuses on the study of the environment. ESF's experts will also be on hand to answer environmental questions.
"ESF is proud to partner again with New York State Parks to bring hands-on science activities to the fair and help visitors get excited about science," said ESF President Joanie Mahoney. "Fairgoers may be surprised to learn just how much science is incorporated into their daily lives and how they can live even more sustainably."

Thursday, Aug. 25: Chemistry Day
9 a.m. 鈥� 1:30 p.m.: Create handmade paper with the Department of Chemical Engineering while learning about the important role chemical engineering plays in solving society's challenges in energy, manufacturing, and the environment.
1:30 p.m. 鈥� 6 p.m.: Learn what's in our water and see how chemicals are removed from it with the Great Lakes Research Consortium and members of the Chemistry Department. Experts will be available to answer questions about the Great Lakes, invasive species, and algal blooms.
Friday, Aug. 26: Engineering Day
9a.m. 鈥� 6 p.m.: See the environment through digital "eyes" by using a handheld spectrometer with the Department of Environmental Resources Engineering. ESF faculty will demonstrate how items such as leaves look different within various ranges of the electromagnetic spectrum and how this technology is used to solve environmental challenges.
Monday, Aug. 29: Recycle Right
9a.m. 鈥� 6 p.m.: Learn how to properly recycle and incorporate daily sustainable practices through games, activities, and information with the Center for Sustainable Materials Management.
Tuesday, Aug. 30: Pollinators' Paradise
9a.m. 鈥� 1:30 p.m.: Make seed balls containing native plant species seeds to give pollinators a variety of plants to pollinate with ESF's Open Academy.
1:30 p.m. 鈥� 6 p.m.: Learn how to properly recycle and incorporate daily sustainable practices through games, activities, and information with the Center for Sustainable Materials Management.
The College will also have information for interested prospective students.
