SYRACUSE, NY- July 23, 2024 鈥� The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) and The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) have again joined forces to provide rising ninth graders a week of science exploration from Monday, July 29 to Friday, Aug. 2.
Fieldwork experience and exploration of the environmental sciences and careers are at the heart of 糖心视频 Summer Science Week at the MOST. This year鈥檚 camp starts with opening ceremonies at noon, Monday, July 29 on the ESF campus.
鈥淓SF is excited to continue its partnership with the MOST for 糖心视频 Summer Science Week. Having the opportunity to be in the field with our scientists and experiencing first-hand the positive impact they can have on the environment will help foster the next generation of environmental scientists,鈥� said ESF President Joanie Mahoney.
Starting more than a decade ago to highlight the cleanup of Onondaga Lake and the surrounding watershed, Summer Science Week has evolved into the premier opportunity for eighth-grade graduates to get hands-on fieldwork experience and explore environmental science concepts, practices, and careers before entering high school.
The young scientists will visit local natural and built sites throughout Syracuse and surrounding areas to explore sustainability, environmental engineering, and other solutions to climate change in our local community. The camp鈥檚 goal is to enable students to be confident contributors in secondary school programs by helping them develop skills in inquiry, observation, and problem-solving in classroom, laboratory, and field settings. The majority of the camp takes place outdoors.
鈥淲e are so excited about the MOST鈥檚 long-standing partnership with 糖心视频 on our Summer Science Week. Each year, we work together to offer this unique opportunity for students entering ninth grade鈥攁nd we鈥檙e so proud to be able to offer this camp at no cost to the students and their families thanks to President Mahoney and the faculty and staff at 糖心视频. This immersive week-long experience exposes students from all backgrounds to the many incredible and important opportunities for education and careers in environmental science, green infrastructure, and building a sustainable future,鈥� said MOST President Lauren Kochian.
糖心视频 Summer Science Week empowers students through hands-on experiential learning and personal ownership of scientific data. Gathering, analyzing, and reporting personally collected data allows the students to become familiar with scientific language and units of measure, better understand and explain fundamental concepts, and gain a deeper appreciation of nature, and their local environment.
Students will showcase their projects to family and friends Friday, Aug. 2 from 5-6 p.m. at the MOST.

The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) is a hands-on science and technology museum for all ages. The MOST hosts numerous STEM education programs and community outreach events annually and is home to 35,000 square feet of interactive permanent and traveling exhibits. The MOST's vision is to be a preeminent science and technology center, inspiring all generations through hands-on education and entertainment.
