Welcome to Analytical and Technical Services
The mission of the Analytical and Technical Services (A&TS) unit is to provide specialized, customer-focused, value-added support services contributing to the ESF missions of instruction, research and public service. A&TS manages several analytical laboratories, maintains a chemical/laboratory apparatus stockroom and provides technical support for research and instruction.
A&TS analytical instrumentation in our core units includes:
Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometry;
Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)
Liquid Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS)
Scanning electron (SEM) and transmission electron (TEM) Microscopy;
Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES),
ICP Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and Laser Ablation ICP-MS (LA-ICP-MS);
Ion chromatography (ThermoFisher Scientific Dionex ICS-6000) and
Mercury Analysis
The A&TS team is a technologically diverse collection of skilled professionals who provide an array of centralized analytical and support services for the benefit of ESF and its research partners. A&TS has an extensive portfolio of chemical analysis methods and capabilities to complement the academic activities of the ESF community.
A&TS charges users through a recharge system intended to defray the cost supplies and other consumables, maintenance contracts or replacement parts. Analytical instruments are available on an hourly charge basis or, in some cases, at a defined cost per sample. Items charged out of the Chemical and Apparatus Stockroom are billed monthly to customer-provided NYS or RF account numbers.
In addition to serving its ESF customer base, the services of A&TS are available to external (non-ESF) customers to support academic and private research projects. We work with academic institutions across New York state, as well institutions across the United States and Europe. We also directly support research conducted by governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations and industry.
