Page Creation How-To

Getting started

  1. Go to the 鈥楥ontent鈥 tab in the top menu
  2. Select 鈥楶ages鈥 from the Content tab dropdown
  3. Go to the folder where you want to create pages
  4. Click on the arrow next to 鈥楴ew鈥 in the blue box (found at the top right)
  5. Choose from the following:

If you are creating a new sub-section:

  1. Select 鈥2023 Section鈥
  2. Type the name of the folder in 鈥楩older Name鈥 field (all lowercase, no spaces)
  3. Type the name of the folder in 鈥楽ection Title鈥 field (initial caps with spaces)
  4. Type the title of the page in 鈥楶age Title鈥 field (initial caps with spaces)
  5. Add a description of the page in the 鈥楧escription鈥 field (1-2 sentences that will display in search results)
  6. In the 鈥楾ags鈥 field, select appropriate tags from the dropdown list
  7. In the 鈥楰eywords鈥 field, add keywords that will help people find the page if they search
  8. Ignore 鈥楩ile Configuration鈥 options
  9. Ignore 鈥業ndex Page鈥 options
  10. Click the blue 鈥楥reate鈥 button at the bottom right.
  11. The site editor will take you to the 鈥榠ndex鈥 page

Editing your new page:

  1. Make sure you have the page checked out (the lightbulb icon is yellow if it鈥檚 checked out)
  2. Click 鈥楶roperties鈥 in the tabs above the top of the page you鈥檙e editing
  3. In the Properties sidebar, click 鈥楶arameters鈥

Editing the page properties: 

  1. In the 鈥楧escription鈥 field, add a description of the page (1-2 sentences that will display in search results)
  2. In the 鈥楰eywords鈥 field, add keywords that will help people find the page if they search
  3. In the 鈥楾ags鈥 field, select appropriate tags from the dropdown list
  4. In the 鈥楬ero Content鈥 section, in the 鈥淗ero Image鈥 field: click on the 鈥榗hoose file鈥 box (you may see an icon that looks like a page). Navigate to the 鈥榠nteriorbanners鈥 folder and find an image that has been sized for the hero image space.
  5. In 鈥楳ain Content鈥 section, the Side Nav Heading field: delete these words: Interior 2 Column
  6. In 鈥楽idebar Elements鈥, make sure the boxes are checked for both 鈥楨SF Main Links鈥 and 鈥楥ontent Below Navigation鈥
  7. Ignore 鈥楢dditional Content鈥 section
  8. Ignore 鈥楽ocial Meta Tags鈥 section
  9. Click the blue 鈥楽ave鈥 box at the top right

Edit the text and content of your page:

  1. In the tabs along the top of the page you鈥檙e editing, click 鈥楨dit鈥 (top left, small letters)
  2. Scroll down past the top navigation and banner. Click the green box that says 鈥楳ain Content鈥 to open editing options for the main content section of the page.
  3. Add content to the main content area
  4. When you鈥檙e finished, click the blue 鈥楽ave鈥 box
  5. If you want content to appear 鈥渂elow鈥 the side nav on your page, click the green box that says 鈥楽ide Content鈥 (at the bottom of the sidebar)
  6. Add content to the sidebar content area
  7. When you鈥檙e finished click the blue 鈥楽ave鈥 box

Publish your page:

  1. Click the green 鈥楶ublish鈥 button
  2. Click the blue 鈥楻un all checks鈥 button
  3. Review the results of the following checks:
    1. Spelling - this identifies misspellings or words the dictionary doesn鈥檛 understand. If they鈥檙e accurate, then add them to the dictionary
    2. Links - this identifies broken links
    3. W3C Valid - this identifies errors that don鈥檛 meet W3C standards
    4. Accessibility - this identifies errors that don鈥檛 meet accessibility requirements. If a problem is listed as a 鈥榩otential鈥 problem, then it鈥檚 not an error, just a warning to review.
  4. If checks don鈥檛 pass, then fix the identified problems. If you don鈥檛 understand the identified problem, contact the web team.
  5. If all checks pass, click the green 鈥楶ublish鈥 button.

If you are creating an additional page in a folder that already exists:

  1. Click the arrow next to the blue 鈥楴ew鈥 button at the top right.
  2. From the dropdown, select 鈥2023 Interior Page
  3. In the 鈥楶age Title鈥 field, type the page title (initial caps with spaces)
  4. In the 鈥楰eywords鈥 field, type keywords that people might use if they search for the page
  5. In the 鈥楾ags鈥 field, select appropriate tags from the dropdown list
  6. In the 鈥楰eywords鈥 field, add keywords that will help people find the page if they search
  7. In the Filename field, type the filename (all lowercase, no spaces)
  8. Click the blue 鈥楥reate鈥 button at the bottom right.
  9. The site editor will take you to the new page.

Editing your new page:

  1.  Make sure it鈥檚 checked out (the lightbulb icon is yellow if it鈥檚 checked out)

When your new page is published, republish the _nav file

  1. In the top menu bar, select the 鈥楥ontent鈥 tab
  2. In the dropdown list for the Content tab, select 鈥楶ages鈥
  3. At the top of the file list for the folder you created, locate the _nav file
  4. Click on the three dots all the way to the right of the _nav file
  5. In the set of options that opens, click 鈥楶ublish鈥
  6. Choose 鈥榩ublish鈥 from the dropdown menu that opens
  7. Click the blue 鈥楻un all checks鈥 button
  8. Review the results of the following checks:
    1. Spelling - this identifies misspellings or words the dictionary doesn鈥檛 understand. If they鈥檙e accurate, then add them to the dictionary

Confirm your work/see the published page

  1. Return to the topmost folder you were working on
  2. Select the index page in that folder
  3. Click the 3 dots at the top right
  4. Select 鈥榁iew Published Page鈥
  5. In the side nav, you should see links for all pages you鈥檝e created.
  6. The content on the pages should reflect the content you鈥檝e added to the main content areas and the side content areas (you will not always need to add content to the side nav).
